Bookman and Wingfield on … the minimum wage (video)

Do we need to raise the minimum wage? Are there better ways to address poverty? Was it Jay or Kyle who once worked a minimum-wage job? These questions and more are answered in this week’s video, which has a slightly different format than the first few:

Unless weed prices have gone up, there's really very little need to raise the wages of teenagers living with their parents.

Nice production.  Better every week.  More natural every week.  Kudos!

If you don't like your job or feel the wages your employer pays you is far too low then work harder or work smarter to prove them wrong: Show them you are worth more money.

@MHSmith Good idea. We should just set minimum wage at  10 cents an hour and folks can follow your plan to move up.

My first "real job"(as one member of the tag team said) paid a training wage, below minimum wages. I had to earn a rise to get a "minimum wage".

Can someone argue that the minimum wage not keeping up with inflation is somehow fair ?

Id love to hear it.

@HeadleyLamar By that logic, the government should mandate that all salaries rise annually by at least the rate of inflation. Right?

Also, low income workers are a greater burden on public assistance programs

The Walton pay their workers next to nothing.

Meanwhile they are worth Billions

Who picks up the slack. ? ....You and me John Q Taxpayer that is who.

@HeadleyLamar Now that Robt Gibbs is pushing Big Macs maybe be will set the example and go to higher wages and $9.99 Big Mac meals to recover the costs.

We can finally find out if that proggie style economy stuff works in the real world.

@RafeHollister @HeadleyLamar  Nobody is asking for 9 dollar big macs

Just that folks like the Waltons don't own more than 40 percent of America

They CAN EASILY AFFORD TO PAY THEIR EMPLOYEES more and not sell jeans for 100 bucks.

But instead they stick us with the bill. And you take it with a smile on your face.

Last time I was in Walmart they were selling some pants for $9. Oh, and the close-outs they couldn't sell for $9, were for sold even less.

Rollback alert!

@HeadleyLamar

Had a nice talk with a 30 year Walmart greeter about wages. She informed me that most cashiers in the store were eligible for, and used " food stamps".

Interesting how many conservatives are okay with using taxpayer money for " government handouts" to Walmart workers so Walmart can make a bigger profit.

Hmmmmm, maybe this is a plan that helps very wealthy people who pay very low income taxes on capital gains. And... maybe they have tricked middle class conservatives who pay higher taxes and earn money from wages to parrot their anti minimum wage mantra.

I have heard many call for not only the end of EITC but minimum wage itself

After all the market should decide right. If people just worked harder they would move up.

Jay gives great examples of how the minimum wage has NOT kept up with inflation.

Oh and Kyle. Yes minimum wage folks are about 2 percent of workers.

The after 20 week abortion ban would only effect 1 percent of abortions. Did not seem to matter then.

Aww come on, Kyle & Bookie.  Leave the videos to the "actors" and enlarge your journalistic efforts since you are journalists.    We know you've been on a debating team or won arguments  with the wife or thought about being a lawyer.  But...I think it takes a little more than that..

We can all dream.  Innovations are fine but use talent where it gives best results.  Thanks for trying..

Bummer, Dusty.  Always, the negative.  I think that they are both great and improving by leaps and bounds every week.  Don't give up this dream, Kyle and Jay.  Good things ahead for you both, imho.  As usual, Dusty is just jealous or has to be a sour puss.  ;-)

Nice video, glad to see they've gone to this format.

And glad to see it remaining friendly and constructive.

Do we need to raise the minimum wage? Are there better ways to address poverty?

Yes to both, IMHO.

Excellent job, Kyle!

I liked the face to face, as it were. Much better than the split screen.

Did jay tell you how long he was stuck in his minimum wage job?

Not suckin' up or anything, but you do very well on camera. You're a commanding presence.

Are we supposed to answer those questions?

1) No

2) Yes

3) Both

Now give me a double @.

You get the minimum work for the minimum wage...

RafeHollister

@Jefferson1776 And they can't understand why they never get promoted!

If you want to succeed (which you would think most do, although it seems at times some don't) you need to work like and dress like you would if you had the job you really want.  Those that do not get that concept are the lifetime minimum wage workers.
